Are you looking to expand your experience in an SEMH setting? Do you have a passion for education and a desire to make a meaningful impact?

Simply Education is seeking a dedicated teacher with experience in KS3 or KS4 and an understanding of the importance of supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. While QTS is not required, relevant experience is essential. This role does not involve marking or planning.

About the role

SEMH teachers play a vital role in supporting students who face challenges that may affect their ability to learn in a mainstream setting. You will help create and maintain a nurturing, inclusive learning environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key responsibilities:

  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies and interventions to support students in regulating their emotions and managing their behaviour.
  • Use positive reinforcement techniques and de-escalation methods in line with the school's behaviour policy.
  • Maintain open communication with teachers, parents, and professionals involved in students' care and education.
  • Provide emotional support and create a safe space for students to express their feelings and concerns.
  • Build trusting relationships with students, offering patience and empathy to those who may exhibit challenging behaviours.
  • Stay updated on best practices in special education, social and emotional learning, and mental health support.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and SEMH-related training.

What we're looking for:

  • A degree in education or a related field.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs.
  • Knowledge of KS3 or KS4 curriculum.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Experience managing challenging behaviour (preferred but not essential).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to meet students' evolving needs.
  • Resilience, patience, and empathy.
