My client has a secured workstream for years to come and, due to growth, is now looking for various  OHL Design Engineers to join their expanding Engineering team. They are a key player in providing engineering and construction services to the UK transmission and distribution sector, actively contributing to the net-zero 2050 initiative. Their secured workstream guarantees long-term opportunities as they deliver essential new build infrastructure in the UK. As a selected ASTI contractor, they are dedicated to enhancing network capacity to support the UK government's 2030 goals and the transition to net zero.

These positions offer a hybrid work model, allowing flexibility between home and office locations in Glasgow, Horsham, or the Midlands.

The Role

As a skilled design engineer in the HV OHL sector, you will join a global team and enhance your expertise in HV OHL design, construction, procurement, and consultancy. Typical responsibilities 

  • Complete OHL design studies to support construction and consultancy projects
  • Set up and develop transmission line models
  • Produce electrical line performance assessments and all electrical safety studies
  • Produce or utilise OHL support models within the transmission design models
  • Evaluate, select, and quantify transmission line components on projects
  • Support safety by design assessments throughout the design process
  • Integrate and support the development of innovation within project solutions
  • Create design deliverables to confirm the outputs of the engineering studies to internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure, as far as practicable, that all assigned work is conducted in compliance with the agreed budget and programme
  • Keep up to date with all technical quality management procedures, developments and specifications related to the discipline work scope

What makes you suitable? 

  • Degree in engineering or applicable related discipline
  • Basic understanding of overhead transmission line design
  • Ability to utilise PLS CADD/ Tower to develop design outputs
  • Fluent spoken and written English language
  • Ability to work as part of a dispersed and remote team and be able to communicate through collaboration software such as Microsoft teams
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse team
  • Awareness of key Health and Safety impacts on OHL construction contracts

Desirable:

  • Ability to use CAD design software
  • Ability to create PLS CADD Models from topographical survey data
