Our client, an innovative and pioneering agrochemical startup, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will provide a broad range of technical support within the laboratory, focusing on Molecular and Fermentation workflows. This role involves maintaining laboratory areas, managing experimental resources, and contributing to groundbreaking research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support for laboratory and specific research projects within Molecular and Fermentation workflows.
  • Maintain laboratory areas, including glycerol stocks, cell lines, specified equipment, and associated consumable materials.
  • Generate and monitor health and safety documentation, such as COSHH, Risk Assessments, and SOPs.
  • Perform laboratory administrative tasks, including inventory ordering control and coordination with other Technicians and the Technical Manager.
  • Contribute to research objectives in line with the project/company’s key performance indicators.
  • Manage safety related to laboratory organisation, experimental techniques, equipment, and processes.
  • Set up and perform experiments, including microbial expression screens and cell assays; analyse and interpret results; and contribute to the development of experimental strategies.
  • Document research output, including data analysis and interpretation, maintaining records and databases, and drafting technical/progress reports.
  • Present work at internal and relevant group meetings.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team/group meetings across the company.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Essential:

    • Undergraduate degree (BSc) in relevant Life Sciences, such as Molecular Biology, Synthetic Biology, Biotechnology, or a similar field.
    • Introductory/applied knowledge of molecular biology techniques.
    • Practical understanding of molecular biology techniques (e.g., cloning, aseptic technique).
    • Experience in preparing molecular biology consumables (e.g., agar plates, glycerol stocks, media preparation).
    • Strong collaboration and organisational skills within a team project setting.
    • Ability to shift focus and change priorities with the agility of a start-up.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including teamwork and a collegiate approach.
  • Desirable:

    • MSc/MRes degree in a relevant subject.
    • Industrial experience in molecular biology, microbial cell culture, etc.
    • Experience with more complex molecular biology and fermentation techniques.
    • Experience with microbial or mammalian cell culture techniques.
