Position Overview: The purpose of the role is to lead the High Voltage & Low Voltage electrical services in the planning, oversight, supervision, and assessment of the production of the infrastructure design documentation. This will include planning for and supporting integration with internal project stakeholder groups as well as external customer stakeholder groups.

 

Typical activities will include:

 

  • Attendance at design review and project meetings.
  • Attendance at Hazard Identification Workshops, optioneering reviews and other stakeholder meetings.
  • Originating and reviewing of engineering documentation.
  • Stakeholder Management.
  • Identify project functional requirements and stakeholder needs for assigned project.
  • Manage Consultant engineering support to the project.
  • Support project optioneering process.
  • Review and accept project drawings and documentation.
  • Manage detailed design activities in accordance.
  • Carry out technical assessment/approval of contractors work instruction/method statements/risk assessments.
  • Provide technical supervision of construction/deconstruction activities to ensure compliance with design intent.
  • Specify and provide technical supervision of commissioning and/or decommissioning.
  • Liaise and consult with stakeholders throughout project life cycle to ensure efficient and effective project delivery.
  • Comply with all Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality policies, procedures, work.instructions and risk assessments and support the continuous improvement of Health, Safety,
  • Environment and Quality on Site.
  • The post holder will be expected to support delivery within their range of skills, knowledge, experience and competence.
  • Contribute to the effective development and delivery of training within own area of specialism.

 

Tasks

 

  • Leading working groups, meetings and reviews with Consultant / Contractors
  • Authoring, development, assessment, maintenance and management of the suite of Nuclear
  • Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents.
  • Management of design changes/concessions.
  • Presentation of Design substantiations, to ‘Due Process’ nuclear safety committees
  • Production and development of Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) Schedule, operating procedures and results to satisfy design requirements and safety case through life.
  • Producing Periodic Review of Safety reports.
  • Providing advice and direction to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Production of Independent Technical Review (ITA)/Independent Peer Review (IPR).
  • Use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology.
  • Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, maintain, decommission and re-cycle engineering processes, systems, services and products in a nuclear/high risk environment.
  • Producing robust technical justification to allow for relevant civil/structural design modifications to be authorised within a high hazard industry.
  • Review technical reports and other safety case submissions from external contractors.
  • Check and review calculations and technical documents written by other members of staff.

 

Position Requirements

 

Essential:

 

  • Knowledge of current design standards and working practices including British & European Standards.
  • Knowledge on High Voltage & Low Voltage electrical systems.
  • Theoretical and practical skill and experience across concept design, detailed design and construction stages across a range of electrical engineering projects (ideally including industrial and/or maritime).
  • Experience in the design assessment of electrical plant and equipment to withstand hazards.
  • Experience in the specification of electrical systems and components for both High Voltage and Low
  • Voltage electrical networks at both 50Hz and 60Hz.
  • Experience of authoring and producing robust technical justification and supporting documentation to allow for relevant electrical design modifications to be authorised within a high hazard industry.
  • Familiarity with industrial plant and machinery such as pumps, generators, HVAC, SCADA, PAVA Systems etc.
  • Experience working on multi-discipline projects providing electrical engineering input (ideally within defence and/or maritime).

 

Desirable:

 

  • Ideal candidates would already have experience within similar high-risk environment
  • Familiarity with safety case development techniques e.g., HAZID/HAZOP studies.
  • Experience of working in the UK nuclear industry (energy or defence), particularly in the design and assessment of safety-related structures, systems and components.
  • Knowledge of UK and US nuclear industry regulation and practice, and application of relevant nuclear-specific codes and standards.

Essential:

 

  • BEng electrical engineering degree or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent experience

 

Desirable:

 

  • Safety case related training
