Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with a global engineering company that specialises in project management and consultancy services within the nuclear sector to recruit a Principle Electrical Engineer in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Principle Electrical Engineer role comes with a salary of up to 70,000 and company car. The key responsibility of this role is to lead and manage key design and construction activities for high-risk, high-complexity projects, primarily in a maritime environment.

Responsibilities and duties
As a Principle Electrical Engineer you will:

  • Attend project meetings, design reviews, and hazard identification workshops.
  • Manage stakeholder communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee external engineering consultants and contractors.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including design substantiation reports and safety-related assessments.
  • Manage design changes, concessions, and updates to key documents.
  • Author and maintain examination, inspection, maintenance, and testing (EIMT) schedules.
  • Supervise on-site construction and commissioning activities.
  • Provide technical direction to ensure compliance with design intent and safety standards.
  • Review contractor work plans, method statements, and risk assessments.
  • Support the development of safety cases and periodic safety reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng) or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering design standards (British & European Standards).
  • Experience in designing, assessing, and specifying high and low voltage systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial systems (pumps, generators, HVAC, SCADA, PAVA).
  • Proven ability to develop technical justifications for design modifications in high-hazard environments.
  • Experience working on multi-discipline projects, ideally in defence or maritime sectors.
