Role Overview:
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of quantity surveying on a diverse range of projects, from inception through to completion. You will oversee the financial and contractual elements, ensuring cost control and delivering value on both private and public sector projects. You will work closely with clients, contractors, and project teams to ensure the successful delivery of projects within budget and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Quantity Surveyor:

  • Lead quantity surveying services on a variety of high-profile projects across the private and public sectors.
  • Manage the preparation of detailed cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Undertake risk management analysis, including assessing cost risks and opportunities.
  • Monitor and manage project costs throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring financial control and accurate reporting.
  • Oversee the tendering process, including reviewing and validating tender submissions, and supporting procurement activities.
  • Provide advice on contractual issues and help resolve disputes as they arise.
  • Carry out regular cost reporting, including monthly financial reporting to clients and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and manage valuations, including variations and change orders.
  • Mentor and develop junior quantity surveying staff, fostering their growth and helping them improve their technical skills.
  • Advise clients on the most effective project delivery strategies, focusing on cost optimization and value engineering.

Required Experience of the Senior Quantity Surveyor

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a background in consultancy or contracting.
  • Proven experience working on large-scale, complex projects within both private and public sectors.
  • Strong expertise in cost estimation, cost management, and financial reporting.
  • Solid understanding of contracts, procurement processes, and project delivery methods.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard software tools (e.g., CostX, Asta, Excel).
  • Excellent communication and client management skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to mentor and guide junior staff.
  • A relevant degree (e.g., Quantity Surveying, Construction Management) and ideally a professional qualification (e.g., RICS).
