Our client, a dynamic and rapidly expanding construction organisation, headquartered in Surrey, is seeking an experienced and proactive HR Manager to support the growth and success of their business. The company, historically UK-based, has expanded into Europe and continues to see exciting developments across multiple regions, including France, Spain, Italy, and Germany.

HR Manager - About The Role

As HR Manager, you will oversee all human resources functions across the UK and European offices, ensuring that the workforce is engaged, motivated, and aligned with the company’s goals. You will have the opportunity to shape HR strategy, manage employee relations, and work with leadership to promote a positive and inclusive company culture. Occasional travel to the London office and other sites in the UK and Europe is required. This is a permanent, full-time role primarily based in Godalming, Surrey. Driving/own transport is essential due to location of the offices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee HR operations for offices across the UK, France, Spain, Italy, and Germany (between 100 - 150 employees).
  • Manage the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, performance management, disciplinary, grievance, and capability hearings.
  • Coordinate recruitment, ensuring we attract and retain the best talent across regions.
  • Maintain and manage HR systems, including the HR Portal.
  • Update and manage company policies, ensuring compliance with local labour laws and HR best practices.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to line managers on HR matters, including annual appraisals, performance management, and employee development.
  • Act as a point of contact for HR queries and issues, maintaining effective interpersonal relationships at all levels.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives to foster a fair and inclusive workplace.
  • Develop and drive employee well-being initiatives.
  • Manage compensation and benefits, ensuring competitive offerings for employees.
  • Organise employee engagement activities to enhance morale and productivity.
  • Conduct probation reviews and monitor promotion paperwork.
  • Support regional HR teams in managing employee disputes and addressing local issues.

The successful HR Manager will have:

  • CIPD Level 5 or equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience in a similar HR Manager role, ideally within the construction, consultancy, or related sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practices.
  • Experience with Labour Law in Germany, Spain, Italy, and France is preferable but not essential.
  • Experience with HR systems, databases, and HR metrics.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Experience with Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and demonstrate flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment.
