Rapid Vehicle Management are currently recruiting a Vehicle Operations Manager to oversee the maintenance and repair operations of our fleet in line with the targeted figure of no more than 5% per annum of the fleet off the road and within budget expectations to increase the lifespan of our vehicles and minimise vehicle off road time to help support fleet utilisation targets of 90%.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00

Location: Gravesend

What you will be doing: 

  • Oversee the day-to-day maintenance operations for the vehicles on site that are deemed as Vehicle off Road (VoR)
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure optimal vehicle performance, compliance with regulations, and extended lifespan of the fleet.
  • Manage a team of maintenance technicians, providing leadership, guidance, and training to ensure a skilled and motivated workforce.
  • Collaborate with the Fleet Manager to source and manage relationships with vendors for parts, equipment, and services, negotiating contracts and ensuring cost-effectiveness.
  • Support the Fleet Manager and team where required to source solutions for maintenance of vehicles that are on rental either by facilitating customers coming to site for maintenance or helping to source external supply chain solutions.
  • Conduct regular inspections of vehicles to identify and address maintenance issues promptly, ensuring a down time is kept to a minimum and vehicles can be rented in a market leading condition.
  • Utilise fleet management software to monitor vehicle performance, track maintenance history, and analyse data for continuous improvement.
  • Achieve fleet maintenance goals whilst not exceeding the fleet budget, tracking expenditures, and implementing cost-saving measures where possible without compromising on service quality.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and advancements in vehicle technology to make informed decisions and keep the fleet up-to-date.
  • Manage the regular compliance and equipment servicing and record keeping for tools and plant equipment such as ramps, and machines that are used to carry out maintenance.
  • Ensure adequate stock levels and procurement of consumable parts to keep up with demand and maintenance requirements.

What we are looking for:

  • Previous experience in leading a team effectively
  • Existing knowledge and understanding of Fleet Management
  • Able to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Strong communication skills
  • Confident time management and organisation skills
  • Proven experience of working both independently and as part of a team to deliver on expectations
