Facilities Technician

Our client, a successful and dynamic Pharmaceutical Manufacturing company, are currently seeking a Facilities Technician to join their team.

This is a full time, permanent position, working Monday to Thursday 8:00am to 4:30pm and Friday 8:00am to 3:30pm

The Facilities Technician position is a hands-on role based in Great Yarmouth.

The role holder will also deputise for the Facilities Engineering Manager when required.

Key Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience as a handyman or in a similar maintenance role, preferably within a pharmaceutical or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of general building systems and maintenance (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, etc.).
  • Understanding of pharmaceutical industry regulations, including GMP, health and safety, and environmental standards.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, plumbing, mechanical maintenance) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Previous experience in facilities maintenance in a regulated environment (pharmaceutical, food, or manufacturing) is preferred.
  • A valid driving licence (if travel between sites is required).
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain machinery and equipment efficiently.
  • A proactive approach to work with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Health and safety awareness, with a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Basic IT skills (for record-keeping and reporting).

Key Responsibilities:

General:

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs across the facility, including plumbing, decorating, HVAC, doors, windows, flooring, and basic carpentry work.
  • Support emergency repairs and maintenance, responding to issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Conduct routine inspections of the facility, identifying any issues.
  • Ensure that all facilities, equipment, and infrastructure comply with health and safety regulations, including GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards.
  • Operation of the Facilities Helpdesk software.
  • Liaise with external contractors and suppliers for specialized repairs or services, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Maintain records of repairs, maintenance schedules, and compliance-related tasks, including keeping accurate logs of work completed.
  • Coordinate facilities/services maintenance/refurbishments and the organisation/monitoring of 3rd party contractors where necessary.
  • Support the Facilities Manager in ensuring the facility is fully compliant with regulatory standards.
  • Maintain and update maintenance equipment and supplies, ensuring proper inventory control.
  • Assist with general housekeeping duties
  • The role holder will also deputise for the Facilities Engineering Manager when required.
  • Work as a productive and helpful member of the Engineering Team,
  • Follow direct instructions and take part in discussions for the benefit of the team and site.
  • To facilitate the skills development of team members within the Engineering team.

Health & Safety Duties:

  • Support the F&S Manager in ensuring the Site(s) are compliant with legal requirements.
  • Emergency lighting/Fire Extinguishers
  • Legionella control.
  • Root Cause analysis of damage and breakdown incidents - implementation of preventative actions
  • Domestic water management - water regs compliance.
  • Manage control and inspections of site ladders/steps/crawling boards.
  • Standardising and maintenance of fire and emergency signage.
  • Reviewing, maintaining and improving pedestrian walkways around all property’s external areas.

Quality/GMP:

  • Ensure that both they and the rest of the engineering team understand Quality and GMP requirements and comply with Quality and GMP standards with regard to record keeping
  • Be trained and adhere to all procedures associated with GMP, hygiene and cleanliness of manufacturing and production equipment.
  • Identify and implement improvements in GMP wherever possible.

Continuous Improvement Duties:

Actively seek and identify wastes, and deliver ways to:

  • raise efficiencies
  • lower costs
  • improve quality standards
  • improve Health and Safety standards
  • improve flexibility of the facility
  • Actively seek ways to improve one’s own abilities to deliver on the above
  • Participate willingly in Continuous Improvement discussions
