Role Purpose

The Facilities Technician is a hands-on role responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our clients manufacturing site. This role involves maintaining the building, infrastructure, and equipment to meet business, environmental, health, and safety requirements, ensuring the company remains a safe and compliant workplace. The Facilities Technician will also deputize for the Facilities Engineering Manager as needed.

Key Responsibilities

General Maintenance and Repairs

Perform maintenance tasks, including plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, flooring, doors, and windows.

Respond promptly to emergency repairs to minimize downtime and maintain safety.

Conduct routine facility inspections to identify and address issues proactively.

Ensure compliance with health, safety, and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards.

Operate the Facilities Helpdesk software for managing maintenance tasks.

Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs or services.

Maintain accurate records of maintenance schedules, tasks, and compliance logs.

Organize and monitor third-party contractors during maintenance or refurbishment projects.

Support other engineering team members and assist with general housekeeping tasks.

Health & Safety Compliance

Assist in ensuring site compliance with all legal requirements.

Conduct regular checks on emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, and domestic water systems.

Manage and inspect site ladders, steps, and safety equipment.

Maintain and standardize fire and emergency signage across the site.

Improve and maintain pedestrian walkways around external site areas.

Perform root cause analysis on damage or breakdown incidents and implement preventive measures.

Quality/GMP Compliance

Adhere to and promote company Quality and GMP standards in all maintenance activities.

Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards for equipment and facilities.

Keep the engineering team informed and compliant with GMP requirements.

Identify and implement GMP-related improvements.

Cost Management

Seek cost-saving opportunities in facility and equipment maintenance.

Procure spare parts and services at the best possible prices.

Teamwork and Conduct

Actively contribute to the Engineering Team and the company as a whole.

Facilitate skill development within the engineering team.

Promote respect, collaboration, and productivity within the team.

Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities to reduce waste, raise efficiency, lower costs, and improve safety and quality standards.

Participate in and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Skills and Qualifications

Proven experience in general maintenance or a similar role, preferably in a pharmaceutical or manufacturing environment.

Strong knowledge of building systems and maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC.

Familiarity with pharmaceutical industry regulations, GMP standards, and health & safety requirements.

Problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a proactive work approach.

NVQ Level 2 or 3 in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, plumbing, mechanical maintenance) or equivalent experience.

Basic IT skills for record-keeping and reporting.

A valid driving license (if travel between sites is required).

Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
