We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Interim Closing Accountant to assist with the preparation and finalisation of the year-end accounts for a Borough council.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and compliance of the financial records for the year-end process, working closely with internal teams to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality financial statements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the closure of the council's financial accounts for the fiscal year. Ensure all transactions and adjustments are correctly recorded and that accounts are reconciled.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheet, income and expenditure, and cash flow statements, in compliance with relevant accounting standards and local government regulations.
  • Prepare working papers and schedules for the external auditors. Liaise with auditors to facilitate the audit process, responding promptly to queries and providing additional information as required.
