An established legal firm with a rich history and a modern approach to providing high-quality legal services is seeking a Legal Assistant. This role is ideal for someone who is dedicated to supporting various legal processes and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. The firm’s location offers excellent connectivity, making it an ideal workplace for those looking to engage with a diverse client base.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Collecting and distributing DX (Document Exchange) mail.
  • Conducting daily banking activities.
  • Checking telephone messages and emails.
  • Assisting fee earners with probate, property, and other legal areas.
  • Audio typing, opening files, managing time recording.
  • Photocopying, scanning, and filing documents.
  • Booking appointments and managing schedules.
  • Completing HM Revenue and Customs inheritance tax forms.
  • Drafting oaths and other documents for probate applications.
  • Making applications for grants of probate.
  • Drafting letters to clients and communicating with clients and other parties via telephone.
  • Handling Land Registry services including OCS leases, priority searches, and bankruptcy searches.
  • Answering telephones, directing calls, and assisting in the absence of the relevant person.
  • Meeting and greeting clients and customers, offering refreshments, and handling initial inquiries.
  • Updating the access database.
  • Organising the Christmas newsletter and calendar events.
  • Administering and renewing LMS (Legal Management System).

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in a legal support role is preferred.
  • Proficiency in audio typing and managing legal documentation.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with legal procedures and documentation, particularly in probate and property law.
  • Competence in using office software and databases, with a willingness to learn new systems as required.
