Engineering ManagerOur client, a precision engineering company, is currently seeking an Engineering Manager to join their team in Hailsham. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking and expanding business. The main purpose of this role will be:
  • To lead our client's activities in production, quality, and manufacturing engineering
  • Ensuring a consistent and detailed approach using Root Cause Analysis and Problem-Solving Tools such as 8D or 5 Whys
  • Improving quality in line with customer expectations, industry standards, and company objectives
  • Applying methods for cost-efficient manufacturing
The main requirements and employee accountabilities are:• Reduce internal and external NCRs year-on-year by 20%• Increase efficiencies year-on-year by 20%• Reduce warranty complaints year-on-year by 20%• Reduce scrap year-on-year by 20%• Complete routings according to service level agreements The essential skills and experience required for this role are:• A track record of completing projects on time and to quality standards in a complex environment• A proven can-do attitude, taking ownership for outcomes beyond immediate disciplinary control• Structured, organized approach to work, providing a consistent and detailed approach to problem-solving• Five years’ experience working in a similar manufacturing environment with a good understanding of Quality and Process management tools and methodology, including 5S/6S, flowcharts, VSM, Kaizen, Pareto, QCPC, 8D, Cause & Effect, Ishikawa, 5 Whys, etc. The skills and experience we would like the employee in this role to have are:• Use of quality methods and tools• Profound understanding of operations in machining, tooling, welding, assembly, and finishing • Previous experience working in vacuum science would be advantageous Required Qualifications: • Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering We require the following personal qualities and attributes:• Positive attitude towards modern quality practices and manufacturing processes• Previous experience leading small multi-functional teams to drive results and close out issues• Strong communication skills (both upstream and downstream, including external contacts) and the ability to train others, facilitate quality events, and lead cross-functional teams• Keen to drive improvements and capable of thinking outside the box, challenging current thinking to develop new ideas and solutions Benefits:• 25 days plus bank holidays (some holidays may be needed for the Christmas shutdown)• Company pension scheme (employee 3%, employer 6%)• Life insurance (4x annual salary, rising to 6x if joining the company pension)• Occupational health checks provided, including an annual health check for all employees• Occupational sick pay (dependent on length of service, 1-3 weeks full pay)• Annual eye check and assistance towards prescription or safety glasses Please note: The successful candidate will need to drive to the company’s location. The salary will be advised upon application.
