We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Learning Support Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will be essential in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health challenges, helping them to succeed academically and personally. This is a rewarding opportunity for those passionate about positively impacting the lives of young learners with SEMH needs.

Day to day of the role:

  • Provide targeted one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH challenges.
  • Create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that supports emotional well-being and positive social interactions.
  • Work with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to implement IEPs and behavior support strategies.
  • Apply and reinforce behavior management techniques to help students develop self-regulation and social skills.
  • Adapt and differentiate instructional materials to meet the diverse needs of SEMH students.
  • Assist students with academic assignments, offering guidance and reinforcing learning.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate observations to the teaching team.
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Support students in developing resilience and self-esteem through targeted support.
  • Engage in professional development to enhance SEMH education skills and knowledge.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant, with SEMH experience or training preferred.
  • Passion for working with students with SEMH challenges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to foster a supportive learning environment.
  • Knowledge of SEMH strategies and behaviour management.
  • Teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with educational professionals.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to personal and professional development.
  • Willingness to undergo background checks.
