Senior Auditor

  • Location: HX1, Halifax
  • Job Type: Temporary, Full-time, Hybrid Flexible Working
  • Salary: £14.36 per hour PAYE

We are seeking a Senior Auditor to perform and report on systems, governance, and financial audits as directed by the Audit Manager. This role may also involve assisting in the management of the audit service in the absence of the Audit Manager.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Undertake detailed examination of systems and transactions to ensure financial probity, improve control standards, and provision of management information.
  • Identify areas where efficiency savings could be achieved and ensure compliance with Council policies.
  • Evaluate controls and facilitate their development and maintenance throughout the Authority.
  • Undertake special/major assignments and reviews as directed, contributing to the assurance model supporting the Council’s Annual Governance Statement.
  • Prepare detailed reports, findings, and recommendations to clients, which could be internal or external to the Council, including heads of service.
  • Lead within Internal Audit for one or more specialist areas, developing and maintaining complex specialist knowledge and Internal Audit’s approach to the area.
  • Provide advice and guidance internally within Internal Audit and to management and staff at all levels across the Council on controls and issues regarding their specialist area.
  • Develop and maintain Internal Audit’s approach to reflect current best practices, legislation, and related guidance.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • CCAB qualified Accountant or AAT / ACA / ACCA qualification.
  • Awareness of pressures and changes affecting Local Government, particularly auditing issues and standards.
  • Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of Local Government finance.
  • Experience in an Internal Audit environment or experience of undertaking and reporting on complex reviews in a time-limited environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Global Internal Audit Standards.
