An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Financial Controller to join a dynamic and growing company in the Loughton area. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing the financial operations of the business. If you are an experienced and qualified finance professional with a keen eye for detail and a passion for driving financial excellence, we would love to hear from you.

Main Responsibilities:

Finance:

  • Manage and ensure full awareness of all ledgers
  • Prepare and post nominal journals
  • Ensure timely closure of ledgers at month-end
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and associated reports
  • Confirm stock cut-off and calculate/check gross margin
  • Oversee Purchase Ledger BACS payment runs
  • Prepare VAT returns and year-end audit schedules
  • Prepare draft financial statements

Cash Management:

  • Monitor cashflow to maintain daily cash levels

HR:

  • Supervise weekly and monthly payroll
  • Manage staff development, reviews, training, and contracts
  • Prepare HMRC returns and ensure RTI compliance

Stock & Shipping:

  • Understand and audit the E5 pricing model in Excel and Java
  • Ensure accurate stock list and correct average cost calculation
  • Involvement in annual stock take and audits
  • Reconcile perpetual inventory counts
  • Review weekly shipping schedules
  • Oversee environmental returns for packaging and batteries

Foreign Exchange (FX):

  • Manage foreign currency and letters of credit
  • Oversee foreign supplier payments

IT:

  • Maintain systems with minimal downtime
  • Recommend improvements to work practices and system enhancements

Tax:

  • Oversee quarterly corporation tax payments
  • Prepare tax schedules and review year-end tax returns

Property Investment:

  • Authorise payments and arrange cash transfers
  • Review monthly cash calls and payments
  • Manage loan accounts and interest calculations
  • Maintain property investment spreadsheets and year-end schedules

Other Responsibilities:

  • Maintain confidentiality within the company
  • Ensure efficient operations within the finance team
  • Provide information to the owner/chairman as required
  • Assist with ad hoc duties as needed

Competencies & Attributes:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 systems

Person Specification:

  • Recognised qualification (qualified/part-qualified) from ACCA, ACA, or CIMA
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles and techniques
  • Strong communication skills
  • High level of professionalism and commitment to meeting targets
