SEND Functional Skills Tutor
  • Location: Harrogate
  • Job Type: Part Time, 3 days/week
  • Schedule: Monday, Wednesday & Thursday (9am-4:30pm)
  • Pay: £25/hour

We are seeking a SEND Functional Skills Tutor to join an education centre in Harrogate. This role involves delivering inspirational functional skills and PSHE sessions to young people with learning disabilities and/or autism. The position is contracted until 4th April and offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on our learners' independence and integration into the community.

Day-to-Day of the Role:
  • Teach functional skills to a range of learners from Entry Level 1 to Level 1, fostering a sense of pride in their independence.
  • Design and deliver quality educational programmes, enabling some learners to achieve formal qualifications.
  • Maintain behavioural expectations in line with organisational policies and monitor learners' progress using the RARPA framework.
  • Develop and update learning and assessment materials for course delivery.
  • Engage with parents/carers and external agencies to report on learner progress through EHCP reviews and meetings.
  • Stay updated with subject-specific information, changes, and requirements from awarding bodies.
  • Participate in staff meetings, share best practices, and support team members to enhance learner outcomes.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the Skills Bridge Lead, tailored to the needs of the learners and the service.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • DET/PGCE (Level 5) or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Experience teaching functional skills and PSHE.
  • Proven track record of working with young people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
  • Strong knowledge of and enthusiasm for the subject area.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Adherence to Safeguarding, Health and Safety, and Equality and Diversity guidelines.
