We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Head of Art to lead a successful and supportive team in a highly aspirational and well-established department. Â This post provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced Art Teacher to develop their career who will be required to teach Art across KS3, KS4 and KS5, and all ability ranges. You will also be responsible for the management of effective and efficient teaching and learning support in key areas of the school. You will conduct regular meetings, professional development and coaching with staff, setting targets and improving performance.
Purpose of the post:
To lead the Art Department, continuing to raise standards and improve exam results, through effective curriculum delivery in this area.
Responsibilities:
Key TasksÂ
•   To provide leadership that ensures effective teaching and learning in the Art Department.
•   To ensure effective delivery of the National Curriculum Art in KS3, KS4 and KS5.Â
•   To be responsible for the co-ordination, organisation and administration of the Art Department.Â
•   To make a full contribution to the life of the school.Â
LEADERSHIP OF THE DEPARTMENTÂ
•   To provide the vision that will lead the Art Department.Â
•   To lead, by example, the work of the Art team and the students.Â
•   To ensure the good learning of all students in the Art Department.Â
•   To identify, monitor and ensure good academic progress of all the students in the Art Department.Â
•   To complete the Department SEF (Self-evaluation form) annually.Â
•   To maintain and update the Department Improvement Plan (DIP) to ensure it is aligned with whole school priorities.
•   To ensure that the department continuously improves and develops the schemes of learning in line with the latest pedagogy.Â
•   To monitor and ensure the good quality of work of all members of the Art Department.Â
•   To support teachers, particularly ECTs, appropriately.Â
•   To identify and implement appropriate developments with regard to curriculum, syllabus and programmes of study in Art.Â
•   To maintain excellent standards of behaviour and work in Art lessons in line with the school Behaviour Management policy. 12. To teach a timetable commensurate with the post.
Experience:Â
•   To have experience of teaching Art at KS3 and either KS4 or KS5
•   To have experience of working effectively within a team and playing a motivating role
•   To have teaching experience in a culturally diverse secondary schoolÂ
•   To have experience of taking a lead role in departmental initiativesÂ
•   To have experience of implementing teaching interventions and evaluating their effectiveness
Qualifications and Training:
•   To have a degree in Art or a related subject
•   To be a qualified teacher (PGCE or equivalent) with QTS
•   To have a good standard of general education including GCSE Maths and English
Knowledge and Skills:
•   To understand the requirements of the National Curriculum for Art
•   To have an awareness of relevant health and safety regulations and policies
•   To have good ICT skills
•   To have excellent communication and literacy skills (both oral and in writing) – the ability to make points clearly and confidently, providing information and advice in accurate spoken English, and able to understand the views of others
