Responsibilities of a SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with PMLD and SEMH needs.
- Assist in developing and implementing individual education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with teachers and other professionals.
- Support students with physical needs, including personal care, mobility, and feeding, while ensuring their dignity and safety.
- Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment for all pupils.
- Work closely with the SEN team to monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
- Use specialist equipment and resources to engage students in learning activities.
- Collaborate with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
Requirements for SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with PMLD or SEMH in an educational setting.
- A caring, patient, and empathetic approach to working with students with complex needs.
- Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or other communication methods is highly desirable.
- Understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and safeguarding policies.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning, SEN diploma, or equivalent).
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to commute to Hatfield and the surrounding areas.
