Job Description

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and social development of pupils with special educational needs within our school. You will work closely with teachers, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other support staff to ensure that each child’s individual needs are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting Learning: Assist in the planning and delivery of tailored educational activities and interventions for children with SEN.
  • Individualized Support: Provide one-on-one or small group support to pupils with varying needs, helping them to access the curriculum effectively.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track and record the progress of SEN pupils, reporting any issues or achievements to the SENCO and class teacher.
  • Classroom Assistance: Help with classroom management and support teachers in creating an inclusive learning environment.
  • Communication: Facilitate effective communication between pupils, teachers, and parents to support the child’s learning and development.

Requirements

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children with SEN in a school setting is highly desirable.
  • Qualifications: A relevant qualification in childcare or education (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning) is preferred.
  • Skills:

o Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

o Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with SEN.

o Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

o Good organizational skills and the ability to use initiative.

  • Knowledge: Understanding of SEN best practices and strategies to support children with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
