Job Description

As a SHEQ Advisor, you will be instrumental in providing dedicated Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality support to our operational and office teams at our Hemel Hempstead branch. Your role will involve developing and implementing systems and processes that align with our goals and objectives, maintaining compliance, and promoting our brand.

Main Responsibilities:

• Provide Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) support to operational and office teams.

• Develop and implement systems and processes to grow the existing client base and identify new markets.

• Maintain and promote positive relationships internally and externally.

• Ensure legal compliance and mitigate risks related to safety, operations, and commercial activities.

• Deliver training, support, and coaching on SHEQ matters.

• Manage SHEQ functions ensuring 100% compliance across service areas.

• Update and maintain training and accreditations.

• Lead SHEQ incidents, accidents, and near miss investigations, review actions, and close them down.

• Advise and train staff on best SHEQ practices.

• Act as custodian for SHEQ accreditations and memberships (e.g., SSIP & ISO 9001, 14001, 45001).

• Produce SHEQ reports and technical bulletins.

• Conduct SHEQ inspections and audits, addressing non-conformities.

• Develop and review SHEQ policies and procedures.

• Compile statistical reports and presentations.

• Ensure equipment safety and compliance.

• Monitor environmental impacts.

• Update and manage the risk register.

• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards on-site.

• Liaise with SHEQ Inspectors, HSE, and trade unions.

• Conduct in-house SHEQ training.

• Carry out asbestos and scaffolding audits.

• Attend various H&S meetings and represent the company.

• Identify risks and opportunities, advising on mitigation strategies.

• Ensure equipment maintenance and compliance.

• Carry out fire strategies, plans, and risk assessments.

• Stay updated with SHE legislation.

Qualifications

Essential:

• SMSTS qualification

• Valid driving license

• IOSH Working Safely

• NEBOSH National Certificate – General

• Recognised Fire remedial works qualifications/experience

Desirable:

• CSCS card in site management/supervision

• Asbestos surveying and remedial works qualifications/experience

• Degree in Safety, Health, and Environmental Management

• IOSH Managing Safely

• NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety or equivalent

Skills and Experience

• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

• Strong organisational skills and efficient presentation skills.

• Understanding of data protection and confidentiality.

• Knowledge of the construction industry, particularly in the Social Housing sector.

• Experience in multiple refurbishment projects.

• Membership of a Professional Body.

• Knowledge of Construction and Building Regulations.

• In-depth understanding of health, safety & environmental legislation.

• Understanding of CDM regulations.

• Experience dealing with contractors and DLO operatives.

• Legal knowledge of health, safety & environmental sector.

• Understanding of Asbestos and CAR 2012 Regulations.
