The successful candidate must also have experience in managing complex communication needs with people who are predominantly non-verbal. Immersive interactive sensory projection (OMI) for sensory enrichment techniques and Eyegaze based communication devices are available at both homes. Intensive interaction and use of objects of reference are fundamentals of communication. The Trust is in the process of rolling out Active Support (Australia) and some residents are familiar with Signalong and Makaton.
The homes are well resourced with equipment and environments which are conducive to health and well-being; and are well-staffed to provide a range of care and therapies to motivate, stimulate and keep the residents safe.
You will need to have a degree level qualification which is accredited by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and have active membership of The HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council), with evidence of ongoing relevant CPD.
You will be given a high degree of autonomy, independence and authority in your personal delivery of the role, within your professional boundaries. You will therefore have a degree of freedom to be creative in how you respond to challenges and manage yourself and the role. You will need to be experienced, confident, self-aware and competent in your practice.
