Rochdale Council is currently seeking a Street Service Operative to join our team for a three-month period. This role is crucial in maintaining the cleanliness and aesthetic quality of our streets and open spaces. Day-to-day of the role:
- Litter Removal: Undertake the removal of litter using both manual and mechanical methods, including the removal of dog fouling and emptying of litter/dog fouling bins.
- Obstruction Reporting: Report any obstructions or problems that prevent the completion of allocated tasks.
- Grass Cutting: Use pedestrian and ride-on mowers, strimmers, and other ancillary equipment to maintain grass plots within the street scene environment.
- Weeding: Manually weed flower and shrub beds as directed.
- Environmental Stewardship: Act as an environmental steward by identifying and reporting issues such as graffiti and vandalism to your supervisor.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all tasks are carried out in accordance with Corporate and Service Policies and report any incidents that may cause potential harm or injury.
- Public Assistance and Event Stewardship: Assist the public in a courteous and helpful manner and act as stewards for events and activities within the service.
- Inclement Weather Duties: Undertake snow clearing, salting of pathways, cleaning of signs, benches, and features, as well as the cleaning of drains, gullies, and water courses, including ponds and lakes.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in street services or environmental management.
- Ability to operate both pedestrian and ride-on mowing machines and other related equipment.
- Strong awareness of safety and environmental policies.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Physical fitness, as the role involves manual labor and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
