Job Title: Formulation Development Team LeaderLocation: BedfordshireSalary: Competitive + benefitsAbout the Role:My client. is seeking a talented and experienced Formulation Development Team Leader to join our dynamic Pharmaceutical Development Department. This role is ideal for a professional with deep expertise in formulation design and development, particularly in the areas of cosmetics, cosmeceuticals, and topical pharmaceuticals. You will be responsible for leading a small team of Formulation Chemists, driving projects from concept through to commercial launch, while ensuring our high standards of quality, safety, and efficacy are met.Key Responsibilities:• Formulation Development: Design, plan, and develop robust formulations, ensuring compatibility with claims, novel technologies, excipients, and packaging. Consider product performance, stability, sustainability, risks, and costs throughout the development process.• Project Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, applying methodical experimental design, precise execution, and rigorous data analysis to ensure timely delivery.• Documentation: Maintain high standards of documentation for all research and development activities, ensuring project milestones are met.• Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and train a small team of Formulation Chemists, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.• Support Scale-Up: Lead formulation development activities through pre-clinical and clinical stages, supporting the scale-up of formulations to pilot scale (up to 100 kg).• Technology Transfer: Facilitate the seamless transfer of development products to commercial manufacturing, including site visits as required.• Innovation & Compliance: Stay informed on industry advancements and emerging technologies, driving process improvements. Ensure compliance with current Good Practice (cGxP) and Health & Safety (H&S) regulations.Skills and Experience:• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Cosmetic or Pharmaceutical Sciences.• Industry Experience: Proven experience in formulation development of skincare or personal care products, preferably within the cosmetics or pharmaceutical industries.• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of cosmetic/pharmaceutical ingredients, their interactions, and relevant regulations for cosmetic, medicinal, or medical devices.• Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated experience in leading teams, with a ‘can do’ attitude and the ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.• Critical Thinking: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with adaptability to change.• Communication Skills: Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
