About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Site Engineer , working on large-scale highways infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a solid background in highways construction to take on a key role in delivering high-profile projects.

As a Senior Site Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the engineering aspects of the project on-site, ensuring that all work is carried out efficiently, safely, and to the required quality standards. You will work closely with the project management team, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth delivery of the project.

What you will be doing:

Site engineering

  • Establish the level and survey control for contracts 
  • Set out detailed works as per the contract drawings ensuring that checks are made on a regular basis 
  • Ensure records regarding health and safety and the work environment are complete, accurate and comply with organisational and legal requirements 
  • Deliver the work safely, without environmental incidents, and to the specified quality without defects 
  • Assist the Site Agent/Sub Agent in developing efficient work methods and techniques, ensuring the best use of resources and abilities are made 
  • Deputise for the Sub/Site Agent where required
  • Coordinate site engineering control and setting out activities and provide information to operatives and subcontractors.
  • Complete diary sheets along with any photographic evidence as required.
  • Undertake material reconciliations.
  • Ensure all surveying equipment is calibrated.
  • Carry out as-built surveys on complete works and drawings.
  • Assist in maintaining quality records, ensuring all works undertaken in accordance with Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) and maintaining the as-built records.
  • Assist in basic planning, monitoring and programming.
  • Assist in mentoring junior and graduate engineers as required.
  • Identify/assist in introducing new process, techniques and innovations on site.
  • Ensure all company property under your control is taken care of and stored securely when not in use.
  • Participate in creating a knowingly safe working environment.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Proven experience as a Site Engineer on highways or civil engineering projects.
  • Strong knowledge of highways construction techniques, processes, and standards.
  • Solid experience in setting out and using surveying equipment (e.g., total stations, GPS).
  • Familiarity with NEC contracts and their application on highways projects.
  • Experience working within a collaborative team environment, managing relationships with contractors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations in construction.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing site conditions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise with different teams and stakeholders effectively.
  • Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent) or professional certification (e.g., ICE or IStructE).
