With more than 80 years of experience in thermal engineering our products are used in research laboratories, pilot plants and manufacturing sites worldwide.

Managing Director / Site Director / General Manager

Please note : this is a technically biased as opposed to commercially biased role. You will be responsible for all aspects of the site apart from sales.

Based at the UK Head Office in the beautiful Hope Valley in the Peak District, this role will see you taking full P & L responsibility for a business of 150 employees and c 18 million of revenue. Approximately 70% of the turnover is from worldwide export sales. The product range comprises both standard "off the shelf" items as well as high value bespoke products.

Who are we looking for?

  • Degree qualified. This must be in engineering, manufacturing or similar. The ideal candidate will have initially qualified as an engineer and then gone on to develop their career in broader business management whilst retaining their technical skills and abilities
  • Post graduate qualifications are preferred (MBA, Chartered Engineer, Chartered Manager, Chartered Director etc)
  • A broad range of experience in a manufacturing environment which includes elements of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics
  • Proven experience of working in a senior leadership role in an engineering / manufacturing organisation is essential
  • Strong understanding and experience of the metrics or measurements used to judge the performance of an engineering / manufacturing business with regards to performance, revenue, costs, margin, etc
  • Experience of managing both an in-house engineering and manufacturing facility as well as specialist 3rd party contractors who form an integral part of the supply chain
  • Experience of conducting business on the international stage is essential, and an understanding of international trade would be beneficial
  • Experience of the manufacture or assembly of "off the shelf" products and of "bespoke" products is extremely desirable. The product range includes a wide range of standard products which are sold from a catalogue to custom made products which are designed to a customer specification with lead times of up to 8-10 months Product values range from 2,000 to upwards of 500,000 so can be classed as REVEX or CAPEX
  • Experience of identifying, developing and implementing continuous improvement strategies to achieve growth in an engineering / manufacturing environment. This may include make v buy decisions
  • Any experience of value-added services within an engineering / manufacturing environment is useful eg service / warranty contracts, aftermarket etc
  • Experience of reverse engineering of third party products
  • A natural mentor, able to guide and coach senior managers. This will include Engineering, Manufacturing and Production, Finance, Quality, Health and Safety etc
  • Able to collate and present accurate business reporting to group level to include pipeline and forecasts, revenues, costs, margins, EBITDA
  • German language skills are beneficial but not essential, although you should be free to travel freely between the UK and Germany as required
