We are looking for a proactive and skilled Transport Manager to oversee our Busing Operation and fleet management at Gatwick Airport. In this key leadership role, you will guide the operational team, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and commercial success while continually assessing and improving current practices. Youll be at the forefront of maintaining high standards in health & safety, service levels, and quality management, ensuring that our operations run smoothly and safely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the transport operational teams, managing labor resources, vehicle availability, and driver performance.
  • Build strong supplier relationships and oversee performance management for buses, maintenance, leasing, fuel, CCTV, telematics, and driver reporting.
  • Drive a safety-first culture, reducing accident rates and conducting risk assessments for all activities.
  • Escalate and investigate incidents, providing accurate reporting to Gatwicks Health & Safety system and RIDDOR.
  • Manage fleet accidents, recoveries, and coordination with insurers and third parties.
  • Communicate processes, policies, and supplier information to keep the team well-informed.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and maintain quality management processes.
  • Champion transport management best practices and lead change initiatives across the business.
  • Monitor service SLAs, address non-conformities, and utilize driver performance data to drive improvements.
  • Deliver high levels of customer service and handle transport-related complaints promptly.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels, manage absences, and oversee team development and appraisals.
  • Promote health & safety by conducting site visits, patrols, and inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualification.
  • PCV Licence holder.

Experience:

  • Proven experience managing busing operations.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting contract requirements and SLAs.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and operational management skills, with experience motivating teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
  • Organisational skills and the ability to delegate tasks effectively.
