SEN Teaching Assistant

We are on the lookout for a SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team, working primarily with children aged 5-12 who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The ideal candidate will be patient, empathetic, and possess excellent communication skills, including both verbal and non-verbal techniques. Adaptability is crucial to tailor teaching methods to each child's needs. Teamwork is essential, as the role involves collaborating with teachers, parents, and other professionals. A valid driving license is required due to the school's location.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide tailored support to children with ASD, ensuring they engage effectively in lessons and school activities.
  • Work closely with the teaching staff to implement individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Assist in the development of social skills and positive behaviour in a classroom setting.
  • Monitor and support the progress of children, adapting techniques to meet their emotional and educational needs.
  • Facilitate communication between children and help in developing their expressive abilities.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students under your care.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children with ASD or similar special educational needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle, due to the location of the school.
  • A compassionate and patient approach to handling challenging situations.
