Salary: £33,945 to £40,221 per annum.

Working pattern: 37 hours per week, with flexible working agreements.

Contract: 2x Permanent positions.

Location: Horsham, with the need to travel around the County. Hybrid working positively supported.

Employer Pension Contribution: 19.70% this alters per annum on the 1 April each year.

Annual leave: 27 days holiday + Bank holidays = 35 days.

An opportunity has arisen to become a Senior Trading Standards Officer /Trading Standards Officer with us at West Sussex County Council.

You will have experience in Trading Standards and able to help develop and up-skill other members of the team.

As a subject matter expert, you will deal with the most complex / technical legislative issues within an allocated subject area, and you may be asked to input into operational planning.

As an operational officer you will be asked to conduct interventions with businesses to ascertain regulatory compliance and to act as an investigating officer, including more complex cases appropriate to your higher level of experience.

There will also be potential future opportunities to become an Accredited Finance Investigator.

  • Ability to meet agreed deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly understand information; consider the issues, risks and legal implications and to take the most appropriate course of action.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a customer focussed way.
  • Qualification within a formal relevant professional qualification (please view attached job description for more detailed applicable qualifications).
  • Experience of taking the lead role in investigative actions and projects.
  • Experience delivering an effective, efficient professional service.
