The Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Design & Technology (DT) Technician to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting both students and staff in delivering engaging and effective DT lessons. You will assist in the day-to-day running of the DT department, maintaining equipment and resources, ensuring health and safety standards, and providing technical support during practical lessons.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare, maintain, and manage tools, equipment, and materials for DT lessons.
  • Ensure the DT workshops and classrooms are safe, clean, and well-organized.
  • Assist teaching staff during practical lessons by providing technical support.
  • Help set up materials and equipment for demonstrations and practical sessions.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and repairs of DT machinery and tools.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including regular risk assessments.
  • Support students in understanding and using equipment safely.
  • Manage stock levels of materials and tools, placing orders when necessary.
  • Maintain an inventory of equipment and ensure all items are serviced and working correctly.
Person Specification:
  • A strong interest in Design & Technology, with experience in a technical, engineering, or creative field.
  • Knowledge of working with a range of DT materials (wood, metal, plastics) and tools/machinery (laser cutters, 3D printers, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage time efficiently.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with staff and students.
  • A proactive approach to health and safety, ensuring a safe working environment at all times.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous experience in a school environment is advantageous but not essential.
  • Relevant qualifications in Design & Technology or Engineering would be beneficial.
