Prison Support Worker

The Role:
We are recruiting for a Support Worker who will support offenders in custody with guidance, coaching, and practical support, helping them prepare for release from custody and resettle successfully into their local communities.

Duties:

  • Manage a caseload of participants, providing resettlement support and guidance.
  • Assess participants’ needs and create tailored Action Plans.
  • Deliver one-to-one and group sessions, offering mentoring, advice, and training.
  • Track progress and monitor participants' development.
  • Build relationships with HMPPS and external agencies to enhance support.
  • Assist with pre-release planning and ensure smooth transitions to community support.

Required Skills:

  • Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) and/or teaching qualifications (or equivalent) desired, but practical experience is most important.
  • Experience working with offenders or marginalised individuals in training, guidance, advice, or counselling roles.
  • Strong mentoring and guidance skills, with experience in group and individual sessions.
  • Knowledge of the issues affecting offender rehabilitation and desistance theory.
  • Familiarity with National Probation Service, HM Prison environments, and local/national training, education, and employment opportunities.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.


Due to the nature of this role, you will need to undertake an enhanced DBS and prison security checks.
