We are actively recruiting for an experienced Senior Accounts Assistant/Assistant accountant to join a growing business based just outside Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire
The finance team are committed to excellence and continuous improvement in their accounting processes, financial reporting, and compliance standards.
They are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented candidate to support their Financial Controller in managing accounting processes, financial reporting, cash management, VAT, asset management, payroll, and pensions. This role is crucial in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reporting: Assist with month-end reporting for group companies, including submissions to the board and Strategic Executive management team. Support the preparation of accounting packages for parent company
- Purchase Ledger: Process purchase invoices and employee expense forms, prepare monthly payment run reports, reconcile supplier statements, and maintain purchase ledger records.
- Bank and Cash Management: Ensure accuracy of bank account postings and manage petty cash.
- Fixed Asset Management: Maintain the Fixed Asset Register, record additions, disposals, and depreciation charges.
- Payroll and Pensions: Assist with monthly payroll preparation, process pension contributions, and handle year-end payroll data.
- Compliance: Adhere to and promote compliance policies and procedures, propose updates to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and engage in compliance-related training and activities.
- General: Support the Finance Department in achieving its objectives, administer the central finance email inbox, and ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies.

- Substantial experience in a finance and accounting department, with demonstrable experience in at least three areas such as Purchase Ledger, Bank, VAT, Management Accounts preparation, Payroll, and Sales ledger.
- Strong understanding of double entry bookkeeping and accounting principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Well-organized with practical planning skills.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Advanced competency in MS Excel and accounting systems.
- Experience in an R&D organization is desirable.
