Our client, a leading innovator in the marine electronics sector, is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a temporary position within their dynamic team in Hythe, Hamps. This role is ideal for an enthusiastic and passionate professional looking to contribute to pioneering energy generation and hybrid electric drive systems for the recreational marine market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with engineering staff to produce mechanical designs including drive trains, electric motor assemblies, mounting hardware, electronics housings, and production jigs.
- Utilise CAD design tools such as SolidWorks to produce 3D models, assembly drawings, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Apply geometric tolerances and dimensions to create detailed manufacturing information.
- Perform simulation, analysis, and hand calculations to verify engineering designs.
- Liaise with production and quality teams to transition products into full-scale production.
- Prepare technical information to support procurement activities.
- Maintain and update engineering drawings and documentation.
- Assist with improvement of quality control, yield, and quality assurance processes.
- Contribute to hazard analysis and risk assessment process improvement.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Job Requirements:
- Experience in product development within an industrial, automotive, or marine setting.
- Strong background in 3D CAD/CAM design, ideally with SolidWorks but other mainstream 3D CAD packages are acceptable.
- Electro-mechanical packaging/enclosure design experience.
- Proficiency in design calculations from engineering fundamentals and some exposure to stress analysis (FEA) is beneficial.
- Understanding of materials including stainless steels and engineering plastics.
- Experience with marine industry equipment.
- Knowledge of both traditional and modern manufacturing techniques including injection moulding, machining, sheet metal fabrication, and rapid prototyping.
- Experience in production engineering including generation of Bills of Materials, routings, assembly and installation instructions, and establishment of manufacturing/assembly lines.
- Full driving licence and current passport required.
