About the role

Working Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, you’ll be providing competent advice to the business, monitoring & contributing to compliance within UK/EU legislation, whilst adhering to company standards as defined in the DFDS Safety Management System framework. Based in a very busy operational port environment, acting as a point of contact for departmental managers on matters of occupational/operational health and safety as well as environmental issues.

Reporting directly to the Head of HSE, you will be responsible for:

  • Champion a safe working environment providing guidance and support to front line managers to ensure the safe delivery of operations in accordance with all elements of the DFDS safety management system.
  • Provide practical, competent advice in the investigation of accidents ensuring root cause and learnings are established to avoid recurrence.
  • Undertake compliance checks to company standards ensuring ongoing compliance is maintained and areas for continuous improvement established.
  • Represent the companies interests at HSE meetings with key stakeholders, ensuring the risk profile and business requirements meet legislative needs.
  • Monitor closely safety performance and trends; proactively initiating campaigns within areas to address potential areas of concern.
  • Promote a positive organisational culture of which health and safety is at the forefront of decisions taken.
  • Ensure emergency planning arrangements are maintained and exercised to ensure effectiveness.

About you

You shall be joining a forward-thinking award-winning team, who will ensure your integration into the department is seamless and accommodating. We require an individual possessing as minimum a NEBOSH General Certificate who can quickly establish positive relationships with key stakeholders. The engaging post holder must be able to manage their own work commitments in order to ensure delivery of both local tasks and delivery of collective strategic goals, whilst adapting dynamically to changing situations.

Practical experience in an occupational and operational HSE field is a requirement for this role, along with a previous background within the logistics or port sector which is desirable.
