Laboratory Manager

Due to continued growth within our client's fast paced laboratory, we are seeking a Laboratory Manager who will direct, lead, and control the laboratory for the company and its clients, thus supporting the goal of providing a service to their clients that is accurate, timely, and cost-effective.

The Role:

  • Implement, maintain, enforce, and improve the company’s laboratory operating and quality management plans.
  • Overall technical responsibility for the direct operations of the laboratory; ensuring safety and integrity of service.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to support technically biased decision-making processes, respond to analytical challenges, and problem solve.
  • Overall quality control responsibility for the laboratory, in compliance with ISO9001/17025 accreditations.
  • Ensures that the laboratory is a profitable asset for the branch and contributes to business development opportunities.
  • Method development and implementation of additional capabilities to support new testing.
  • Project management for the delivery of new laboratory services.
  • Deputise key laboratory duties and ensures personnel are aware of their contribution to the laboratory’s quality management system.
  • Contributes to the operation of a 24/7 & 365 laboratory with ad-hoc cover provided outside of office hours, on weekends, and bank holidays.

People Management Responsibilities:

  • Drive performance by setting clear and achievable objectives.
  • Team engagement using one-to-ones, team meetings, and regular feedback.
  • Assist the Site Manager in managing performance, discipline, hiring & dismissal.
  • Responsible for the training and development of junior team members.

About You:

Required Skills and Experience:

  • MSc Chemistry or related field, HNC or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of laboratory experience within the chemical industry.
  • Demonstrable leadership skills obtained in a previous management/supervisory position with the ability to manage personnel.
  • Understanding of the significance of the data generated by test methods.
  • Petroleum/Petrochemical testing experience.
  • A background in quality assurance and experience of maintaining ISO 17025 accreditation.
