PURPOSE OF JOB - Engineering Manager

Lead a team of multi-skilled engineers to develop and implement maintenance systems, oversee continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, and execute strategic plans. Ensure equipment uptime, optimize performance, and enhance energy efficiency to support business success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Engineering Manager

Planned Engineering Tasks:

Complete planned engineering tasks and increase the ratio of planned to unplanned activities.

Achieve target planned work completion rate.

Equipment Effectiveness:

Reduce unplanned downtime and improve asset reliability.

Capital Projects:

Identify and manage major upgrade projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on-time, within budget, and meet performance guarantees.

Cost Management:

Continuously reduce maintenance costs relative to sales.

People Management:

Manage a team of 5 engineers.

KEY RESULT AREAS - Engineering Manager

Safety:

Develop and implement safety initiatives and standards.

Manage contractors and suppliers on-site.

Record, investigate, and address accidents and incidents.

Maintain and improve workplace organization through 5S processes.

Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.

Customer Satisfaction:

Integrate equipment operators into maintenance processes and provide feedback.

Report on planned work completion, asset performance, and other KPIs.

Participate in multi-disciplinary teams for root cause analysis and resolution.

Represent the facility in regional standardization processes.

Operational Excellence:

Prepare and deliver the annual engineering budget and associated plans.

Implement best practices in asset management to ensure compliance and increase equipment effectiveness.

Provide fast and flexible repair services to minimize impact on safety, quality, and costs.

Apply project management standards for capital projects and ensure effective change management.

Manage capital and revenue projects from concept to completion.

Plan and manage annual shutdowns and maintenance of key equipment.

Embrace continuous improvement to eliminate waste.

Organisational Development:

Communicate and support the engineering maintenance strategy and performance.

Direct team members in performance management, talent management, goal alignment, and career development.

Create and sustain a high-performing team using SMART objectives and KPIs.

Manage relationships with key stakeholders to support maintenance targets.

SPECIFIC ISSUES - Engineering Manager

Ensure compliance with Business Management Systems (ERP-SAP and MES-Ascman).

Maintain site services including compressed air, gas supplies, electrical distribution, fire detection, and alarm systems.

Ensure statutory compliance and inspections of equipment and systems.

Select and organize external contractors and specialists.

Develop and maintain the planned maintenance system (SAP-PM and MM).

Manage spare parts inventory to balance cost and risk.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE - Engineering Manager

HND or equivalent in mechanical, electrical, or electronic engineering; BEng preferred.

Experience in continuous manufacturing operations such as solvent coating, extrusion, paper production, printing, or finishing. (Desirable)

Experience with modern maintenance practices.
