Due to continued business growth, we are looking to recruit a driven and experienced Sales Proposals Engineer to join a leading manufacturer near Keighley. This provides an opportunity to join an extremely stable and expanding British manufacturer who are a household name in their industry. This role will involve preparation of commercial and technical bids for new machine sales.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrable background in within a Sales Engineering/ Business Development type role within a manufacturing engineering environment . Strong commercial and technical knowledge is essential for this role along with a keen eye for detail and strong communication skills.

Candidates will ideally be qualified in a relevant technical/ engineering discipline .

Hours - Monday - Friday 0745AM - 4PM

Role Description

The Sales Proposals Engineer will be responsible for commercial and technical bid preparation for New Machine sales, matching product capabilities to customer requirements and meeting internal cost, quality and delivery criteria, governance processes and requirements of.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Liaise with Regional Sales Managers, Marketing and Product Development colleagues to understand customer needs and requirements; provide fast and efficient back office support.
  • Produce timely and accurate responses to RFQs ensuring that all sales and technical bids comply with internal processes.
  • Use cost estimating systems and quoting tools and leverage technical knowledge, to provide a cost effective and technically capable solution that also delivers against internal criteria.
  • Develop new quotation models to support New Product Introduction.
  • Manage pre-bid processes and reviews and bid approval meetings, engaging with all internal stakeholders.
  • Collate Order Acknowledgement and ensure the key stakeholders are informed for the sign off as per the governance.
  • Create Factory Orders in line with the Sales governance.
  • Prepare Project handover documentation following an order for the use of the Project Management team.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested.


Key skills requirements:

  • Experience within a manufacturing/engineering environment; a relevant technical or engineering qualification is required, ideally combined with grinding product and process knowledge.
  • Supports front line colleagues with the ability to form and maintain positive relationships with individuals at different levels within customers as well as internally.
  • High attention to detail and ability to bring analytical rigour to work is essential.
  • Strong commercial awareness and confident with figures and calculating costings etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and self-sufficiently; coupled with being able to influence and motivate others to action.
  • Has a continuous improvement attitude and able to adapt to change.
  • Good planning and time management skills; result and deadline focused.
  • Works with drive and enthusiasm.
  • Understanding and previous experience of using SAP would be useful.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
