Unix System Administrator (Non Cleared)

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Unix System Administrator to join our dynamic IT team. In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimisation of our Unix-based systems, ensuring smooth operation and minimal downtime. Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer, configure, and maintain Unix-based systems (Linux, Polarise, AIX, etc.).
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and resolve any hardware or software problems.
  • Implement and manage system backups, disaster recovery plans, and security measures.
  • Collaborate with development teams to support system upgrades, patches, and application deployments.
  • Automate tasks through scripting (e.g., Bash, Perl, Python).
  • Perform system tuning and capacity planning to ensure optimal performance.
  • Provide support during outages, with a focus on quick issue resolution.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for systems and processes.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Unix System Administrator or in a similar IT role.
  • Strong knowledge of Unix-based operating systems (Linux, AIX, Solaris, etc.).
  • Experience with system monitoring tools and diagnostic utilities.
  • Proficiency in shell scripting and automation tools.
  • Understanding of network protocols, security practices, and firewalls.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.).
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM).
  • Certification in Unix or related technologies (e.g., Linux Professional Institute, RHCE).
