Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Carpentry and Joinery Estimator to join our team based in Kent. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately assessing project costs, preparing detailed estimates, and working closely with our project managers, clients, and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and high-quality delivery of projects. You will be estimating for a variety of residential, commercial, and bespoke carpentry and joinery projects, ranging from large-scale construction work to custom-built installations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for carpentry and joinery works, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Tendering: Review tender documents, technical drawings, and specifications to ensure a comprehensive understanding of project requirements.
  • Site Visits: Conduct site visits to assess conditions and scope, identifying any potential challenges or additional costs.
  • Supplier and Subcontractor Liaison: Obtain competitive quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring pricing accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
  • Project Planning: Collaborate with the project management team to develop realistic timelines, ensuring that project costs align with budgets and schedules.
  • Budget Management: Work closely with finance teams to monitor project budgets, identifying potential cost savings or risks.
  • Client Communication: Liaise with clients to clarify project requirements, providing them with clear and accurate pricing and project timelines.
  • Documentation: Prepare and submit formal estimates, cost breakdowns, and tenders in a timely manner.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify and evaluate potential risks to ensure estimates account for contingencies.
  • Industry Knowledge: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, pricing fluctuations, and innovations in carpentry and joinery to ensure competitive and accurate estimates.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a carpentry, joinery, or construction estimating role.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of carpentry and joinery techniques, materials, and processes. Experience with both residential and commercial projects is preferred.
  • IT Skills: Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., EstiMAC, ProEst, or similar) and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • Attention to Detail: Excellent analytical and numerical skills, with a keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy in all estimates.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Organisation: Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Driving License: A valid UK driving license is required for site visits.

Preferred:

  • Qualifications: Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is advantageous but not essential.
  • Local Knowledge: Knowledge of local suppliers, contractors, and pricing in the Kent area.
