Join our Animal Sciences department at The Bedford College Group as a Technician in Animal Care. This role is crucial in supporting the success of our students by maintaining high standards of animal welfare and providing a high-quality learning environment.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Contribute to the daily operations of the Zoological Education Centre.
  • Care for a diverse range of animals including farm, pet, and exotic species such as chelonians, snakes, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, and exotic mammals.
  • Prepare resources and support teaching staff and students during practical sessions.
  • Maintain professional presentation and standards at the centre.
  • Assist in the development and enrichment of animal enclosures and accommodations.
  • Administer veterinary medicines under direction from the team lead as required.
  • Support learners and teachers in practical environments, ensuring all college Animal Care areas and equipment are safe and in usable condition.
  • Handle maintenance tasks appropriately.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject (Animal Management / Animal Science).
  • GCSEs in English and Maths at grade A-C or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in the animal care sector, particularly with a wide range of animals including farm, pet, and exotic species.
  • Ability to consistently support a high-quality learning experience for all students.
  • Strong team-working skills and ability to maintain high standards of animal welfare.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
