Do you want to join an organisation that is responsible for working towards a zero carbon/net zero world for formula 1 racing by 2030? As a Cost Engineer for this exciting orgainsation you will be part of a developing cost engineering function, responsible for driving improvement ideas throughout the product life cycle, advising & implementing best practice in the cost engineering team - along with commercial, design & procurement functions alike and you will be involved from concept through to serial production. Ideal candidate will come from an automotive/manufacturing background and have components/commodity expertise and the cost controls required to deliver projects/products on time and considering value for money at every moment.

Operational Duties:

  • In depth understanding of various processes associated with complex commodities. An expert in several process types & commodities is key.
  • Delivering robust detailed and directional Should Costs (estimates).
  • Participating in the process of supplier selection and supplier strategy planning.
  • Supporting the development of cost models by commodity group suitable for anticipated production volumes.
  • Generating bespoke cost models to suit supplier processes from scratch.
  • Identifying and driving material/process/layout improvements to be promoted as product cost reduction ideas.
  • Identifying and discussing cost gaps with suppliers, taking the lead in negotiating cost reduction ideas or gaps to expectation with use of supporting market data.
  • Development of process improvements within the cost engineering, procurement & engineering functions to support a cohesive team working environment. (Stakeholder engagement is essential to driving improvement)

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of low & high-volume manufacturing processes and associated commercial cost drivers.
  • Experience in developing electrical & mechanical commodities alike.
  • Able to review and understand technical proposals, technical drawings, and specifications with the ability to translate these to non technical staff
  • Utilise CAD modelling software (Siemens Teamcenter or similar) to support identifying cost drivers.
  • Experience in using cost modelling software to create bottom up should costs.
  • Tooling cost driver knowledge also essential.
  • Ability to identify gaps in know-how, willing to learn and develop knowledge of new commodities.
  • Capable of developing and sharing cost engineering best practice methods with stakeholders.
  • Able to manage multiple projects.
  • A good understanding of cross functional roles within the procurement/supply chain structure would be beneficial.
  • The ability to demonstrate cross functional teamwork is critical.
  • Analysing and interpreting numerical data and reaching sound judgements and recommendations
  • Ability to work under own initiative and under pressure, in a controlled manner.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Able to present logical findings to various stakeholders key (Microsoft Excel and office skills)
  • Supplier visits are part of the role, so a clean driving license is essential.

Hybrid working - 2 days on site in Oxfordshire offices
