We are hiring for a Desk Top Publishing Operator (DTP) to join a specialist, leading translation & languages services agency with clients mostly from the business sectors of life sciences, clinical trials, medical and related technology.Language requirements for the jobFluent English is essential. Additional language skills are an advantage (due to the nature of the business) but not essentialCompany backgroundOur client is a leading translation company/ LSP (language services provider) , working with clients from the business sectors of life sciences, clinical trials and medical. They have fantastic business relationships for translations with some of the industry's most recognised companies.Location of the job100%, fully remote working. Must be UK based Job responsibilities of the Desk Top Publishing OperatorTo join their international department, they wish to recruit a Desk Top Publishing Operator. You will be working as part of a friendly team that work on large and complex translation projects. The role will mostly be to manage project typesetting / reformatting of foreign language manuals, product marketing materials and other project collateral including proofreading translated / localised layouts.Your role will typically include the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Revision and proofreading of multilingual layouts to ensure quality and accuracy prior to client delivery
  • Typesetting / reformatting of foreign language manuals, product marketing materials and other project collateral
  • Deliver high quality layout
  • Achieve deadlines agreed with Operations Team
  • Liaise with Project Management Team
  • Provide support and assistance to senior members of the DTP team

The successful candidate background

  • Fluent English is essential. Fluency in additional languages is an advantage (due to the nature of the business) but not essential
  • Ideally be a languages subject graduate
  • Some previous experience with InDesign or similar is an advantage but not essential - full training will be given!
  • Previous desk top publishing work experience would be of interest but it would ideally be from the languages sector as it is unique DTP work to other industries
  • Comfortable working as part of a team and collaborating with other team members and departments across all job processes
  • Computer literate with a good knowledge of Windows and Adobe CC applications
  • Ideally with experience in typesetting in Word and Adobe InDesign
  • Skills in tools such as QuarkXpress, FrameMaker, Photoshop, Illustrator and Video editing would be an advantage but not essential as training will be provided
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Must be flexible and adaptable enough to be able to work in a variety of roles in a rapidly changing environment.

The role would suit a languages graduate that may have done a bit of InDesign or DTP work or similar and are looking for an entry role into the translation sector in a DTP / creative position rather than a project management role.
