Hybrid working (2 days in the office in Dudley)

Our leading manufacturing client in the West Midlands is recruiting for an accomplished, Midlands based BI Business Analyst; the focus for the first six months of the year will be discovery and requirements gathering.

The BA will be working with key stakeholders across the different business divisions to identify and document the corporate reporting and KPI requirements. They will the translate these into detailed technical specifications for the Development team to deliver.

For the last 12 months our client has been running several proof-of-concept (PoC) projects testing out the concept of a new global data warehouse for the business testing both the Microsoft Fabric suite of products / technology but also seeking to demonstrate the potential value to the business.

As the Business Analyst you will be the key interface between the business and the technical development teams ensuring the business intelligence and data products delivered meet the needs of the business.

The first key project is the rebuild of reporting and data feeds currently provided using data from the existing legacy data warehouse (GDW) to the new data platform. The BI BA role will be responsible for the delivery of the Discovery stage for this project in a broad role that will be identifying the corporate Business Intelligence requirements, translating those to specific data requirements for the new data platform and creating the detailed development specification for the load and transformation of the data into the warehouse.

Key requirements:

  • Previous experience working on Data Warehousing / Business Intelligence projects
  • Have a reasonable level of data and technical understanding of the process to build data warehouses and the tools used (ideally experience of working with data and these tools in previous roles)
  • Ability to document requirements in a clear and concise manner
  • Ideally experience working in the manufacturing industry or with ERP system data (MFG, JDE, QAD, IF, SAP etc)
  • Significant experience in engaging with business teams to understand their business processes and identify key performance metrics and reporting requirements
  • Translation of business information requirements into technical data transformation specifications
  • Experience in analysing and mapping data processes and transformations within existing data warehousing and reporting data models
  • Understanding of the information required to build new data mappings in an ETL tool, ideally Azure Data Factory
  • Use of T-SQL and data analysis tools to query and analyse large volumes of data
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Understanding of manufacturing industry processes and ERP systems, ideally JDE or QAD
