We are seeking a dedicated Technical Manager to oversee our company’s Quality System, ensuring compliance with UK/EU food processing regulations and the BRC Global Technical Standard. This role is crucial for maintaining our commitment to food safety, authenticity, legality, and quality. The Technical Manager will report directly to the Managing Director and play a pivotal role in liaising with external authorities and internal teams.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Implement and monitor the Company Quality System to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Lead the HACCP team, ensuring that principles are implemented, reviewed, and documented according to the BRC standard.
  • Liaise with external authorities like the Food Standards Agency, Environmental Health, and Trading Standards, as well as supplier and customer technical and quality personnel.
  • Monitor adherence to Critical Control Points (CCPs) in the company’s HACCPs and ensure fulfilment of controls described in the Quality Manual pre-requisites.
  • Conduct Site Fabric & Hygiene Inspections and Internal audits as per the Quality Manual’s procedures and schedules.
  • Maintain the Supplier Assurance Register and ensure medical screening of visitors and staff.
  • Manage the calibration of factory scales, temperature controls, and recording equipment.
  • Oversee factory product and water sampling according to relevant food hygiene standards.
  • Update and communicate changes in UK/EU food legislation and Quality System documentation.
  • Design and issue-controlled Quality System procedures, forms, work instructions, and specifications.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a technical management role within the food industry.
  • Strong understanding of UK/EU food processing regulations and BRC Global Technical Standard.
  • Experience leading a HACCP team and managing Quality Systems.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective liaison with external authorities and internal teams.
  • Ability to make on-the-spot decisions regarding quality and HACCP non-conformances.
  • Proficient in maintaining and calibrating technical equipment.
