My client is urgently in need of a Mechanical Design Engineer based in Nottingham, due to expansion.

REPORTING TO: Engineering Manager

My client maintains the world’s largest technology center network for bulk materials, which, using the accumulated expertise of more than 60 years in the plant engineering sector, is constantly working on innovative processes and new technologies.

With production facilities in Germany, Brazil, the USA, Saudi Arabia, and China, as well as offices and agents around the world, they can serve any market quickly, flexibly, and locally to their customers.

1 - DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Specify and design equipment for the processing system or stand-alone machine, considering international and national laws/standards.
  • Liaise with other engineering disciplines to ensure the best process control for solutions.
  • Selection of the most suitable equipment for application, environment, and duty, such as sensor types, motor types, and IP rating, including liaison with equipment suppliers.
  • Creative thinking for bespoke equipment design and processes.
  • Preparation of bills of materials and assistance to the purchasing department, including liaising with component suppliers and local metal fabrication companies.
  • Provide Quality Control inspections for manufactured components, including pre-delivery inspections, where required.
  • Support sales staff in providing mechanical designs that meet the quotation's requirements. This support may also involve customer visits.
  • Support the engineering and project managers in reporting and accurately estimating project timescales.
  • Documentation for colleagues, commissioning engineers, maintenance staff and end users.
  • Assistance to the spares department, in-house mechanical assembly, and on-site installation/commissioning as needed (UK only).
  • Ensure that the assigned engineer’s work is checked and accorded with relevant national and international standards.
  • Communicate directly with customers on a qualified technical level.

2 – QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:

  • Educated to degree level in a mechanical-based engineering subject. 5 to 10 years experience in the design of mechanical plants and equipment for industrial manufacturing processes in industries such as food, plastics, rubber, petrochemicals, glass or water.
  • Design/Specification of mechanical equipment for use under ATEX/UKEX is a requirement.
  • Understanding of CE or UKCA requirements.
  • Capable of developing 2D or 3D schematic and layout drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Have at least several years of experience of using SolidWorks 3D or equivalent to create 3D drawings of process plant equipment within a building envelope.
  • Have experience in designing hydraulic and electro-pneumatic control systems.
  • Capable of creating Process and Instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) to depict a process and the process flow.
  • Be proficient using Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Accurately estimate timescales for work within a project.
  • Present a professional approach when interfacing with customers directly.

3 – PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, TRAVEL & SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES:

  • Ability to travel, meet customers and attend site as required.
  • Capable of assisting commissioning staff at a customer site in activities relating to mechanical content.
  • International travel may be required.
  • Driving license.

4- SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Flexible working hours (start between 7:30 am and 9:30 am).
25 Days annual leave (of which 3 days are reserved between Christmas and New Year).
Additional work hours may be required to meet business needs.
Contributory Stakeholder Pension Scheme: The Company input 5%.
Death in Service Insurance Policy (3 x basic salary).
