Eldon Housing Association was established in 1981 and specialises in the provision of housing for older people. Our sheltered and extra-care housing schemes are in the London Borough of Croydon and West Sussex. We also provide Facilities Management services to three London Borough of Croydon Residential Care Homes/Day Centres.

As part of our Board succession plan, we are seeking an Audit & Risk Committee Chair with experience and knowledge to help shape and advance our ambitious plans for Eldon. The Audit & Risk Committee Chair will also serve as a full Board Member. The overall purpose of the Chair is to ensure that the Audit & Risk Committee operates effectively to fulfil its duties and responsibilities as outlined in its Terms of Reference. The role of the Audit Committee is to scrutinise and oversee the Association’s internal control, risk management, and assurance arrangements. We are looking for a diverse range of strategic leadership, management, risk and audit, in a social housing sector, and commercial experience to guide our ongoing organic growth.

We are particularly interested in candidates with strategic experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Governance
  • Finance
  • Legal
  • Housing, Asset & Property Management (PFI knowledge would be an advantage)

The time commitment for this role consists of eight meetings each year and two Saturday Away Days. We typically hold a combination of in-person meetings in Croydon and virtual meetings, usually on Thursdays at 5:30 PM.

Our ideal applicant would have chairing experience and be knowledgeable about and interested in issues affecting the housing sector and older people. A full induction programme will be provided.

We are seeking an Audit & Risk Committee Chair who shares our values and vision for the future, aiding us in transforming our aspirations into reality. We are also particularly keen to have a Board that includes individuals from a variety of backgrounds and different life experiences, supporting our commitment to equality and diversity.

Ideally, we would prefer an individual who resides within a 20-mile radius of our Head Office in Croydon, Surrey.

In return, the Audit & Risk Committee Chair will be part of a team of dedicated people with a wide range of knowledge and skills to share.

The Board Recruitment Pack, which includes the Role Description and Person Specification, is available from our Executive and Governance Officer, Phoebe Herschdorfer.
