The Bookkeeper / Accountant will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow, control, and storage of documentation related to engineering, procurement, and construction activities. The successful candidate will maintain and manage technical and contractual documentation for multiple projects, ensuring compliance with company standards, industry regulations, and project timelines.Key Responsibilities:
- Maintaining Financial Records:Accurately record financial transactions using accounting software or manual ledgers. Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing, bill payments, and customer invoicing.
- Bank Reconciliation:Reconcile bank statements with company records to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies. Resolve any discrepancies or errors promptly.
- Financial Reporting:Generate financial reports, such as profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Provide financial reports to management for decision-making and regulatory compliance.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:Assist with the preparation of company and project budgets and forecasts. Monitor financial performance against budgeted targets and identify variances for analysis.
- Tax Compliance:Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations by preparing and filing accurate tax returns, including VAT returns, payroll taxes, and corporate taxes. Collaborate with external tax advisors to address complex tax issues.
- Payroll Administration:Process payroll accurately and timely, including calculating employee salaries, wages, deductions, and benefits. Ensure compliance with employment laws related to payroll.
- Internal Controls:Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records. Conduct periodic audits and reviews of financial processes.
- Financial Analysis:Conduct financial analysis to assess company performance, identify trends, and make recommendations for improvement. Support strategic decision-making and business planning initiatives.
- Communication and Collaboration:Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to provide financial information and insights.
- Continuous Improvement:Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains within the finance function. Stay updated on changes in accounting standards, regulations, and technology.
What They're Looking For:
- Experience:Previous experience in a Bookkeeper / Accountant role, ideally within the engineering, construction, or renewable energy sectors.
- Technical Knowledge:Familiarity with engineering drawings, project management documentation, and contract administration.
- Software Skills:Proficiency in document control systems (e.g., Egnyte, SharePoint) and MS Office Suite.
- Attention to Detail:Exceptional organisational skills with an eye for accuracy and consistency.
- Communication Skills:Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem-Solving:Ability to prioritise tasks, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
- Qualifications:A relevant qualification in accountancy, administration, or project management is advantageous but not essential.
