This Senior VAT Accountant position offers a fantastic opportunity for personal and professional growth with a highly reputable organisation. As the Senior VAT Accountant, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the organisation’s VAT compliance and providing expert guidance on a variety of tax matters. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with all relevant tax legislation while contributing to strategic decision-making.
Your duties will include:
- Managing VAT compliance, including submission of VAT returns, adjustments, and adherence to statutory deadlines.
- Identifying and addressing priority tax issues while maximizing potential VAT recoveries and mitigating risks.
- Providing advice on VAT matters related to funding, enterprise activities, and major capital investments.
- Leading and supporting one VAT Accountant ensuring process efficiencies and accurate reporting using ERP systems and tools.
- Designing and delivering VAT training to staff, enhancing understanding and compliance across the organization.
- Collaborating with external advisors and HMRC while minimising external consultancy fees.
- Driving continuous improvement of tax systems, processes, and controls to meet organisational needs.
This permanent Senior VAT Accountant will get over 30 days of annual leave, an employer contribution over 14%, various health and wellbeing benefits and the opportunity to work from home twice per week. The role will be based at the organisations head office in central Leeds.
The successful candidate will:
- Have a recognised tax or accountancy qualification or equivalent professional experience.
- Be able to evidence a strong understanding of VAT legislation, preferably within a large or complex organisation.
- Have excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax matters to non-specialists and influence stakeholders effectively.
- Offer analytical expertise and be able to evaluate complex information, draw conclusions, and recommend practical solutions.
