Job Summary:

We're on the lookout for an experienced Construction Estimator to join our team and play a vital role in crafting precise, comprehensive cost estimates for construction projects within the Facilities Management sector. As a key part of our business, you'll support new project bids, cost control, and profitable project delivery. Ideal candidates will bring an in-depth knowledge of construction processes, strong analytical abilities, and exceptional attention to detail.

Key Duties:

  • Project Evaluation: Analyse project plans, specifications, and other documentation to fully understand project scope, identifying all factors that influence costs.
  • Tender and Bid Oversight: Manage tender and bid processes, from initial enquiry and itemisation to precise pricing, preparation, and submission, ensuring alignment with client requirements and company standards.
  • On-Site Inspections: Conduct site visits to verify project conditions, gather essential data, and identify any unique site characteristics that could impact costs or logistics.
  • Supplier and Subcontractor Engagement: Obtain and assess quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, coordinating with them to ensure understanding of service requirements and company terms.
  • Risk Identification and Management: Evaluate project scope to identify risks, challenges, and cost-driving factors, and develop strategies to address these issues.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather insights, ensuring estimates are based on practical knowledge and input from all parties.
  • Detailed Cost Estimates: Develop detailed cost estimates that cover labour, materials, equipment, subcontractor costs, and other necessary items to maintain accuracy and transparency.
  • Software Utilisation: Use advanced estimating software to enhance efficiency and consistency in the estimation process.
  • Client Communication: Present cost estimates to clients, providing clarity on breakdowns, addressing questions, and making adjustments as required.
  • Ongoing Cost Tracking: Monitor project costs throughout construction to ensure alignment with budgets and profitability targets.
  • Executive Coordination: Regularly connect with senior management to discuss project specs, assess risks, finalise rates, and agree on installation needs and profit margins.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Proven Estimation Background: Significant experience as an estimator in the construction industry, preferably within Facilities Management or a related field.
  • Construction Expertise: Deep understanding of construction practices, materials, methods, and equipment, with the foresight to plan for project-specific needs.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with estimating software to streamline processes and improve accuracy.
  • Strong Analytical Abilities: Excellent mathematical skills to ensure precise cost calculations and risk assessment.
  • Detail-Oriented: High level of accuracy, organisation, and attention to detail for producing dependable estimates.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills for clear information delivery to clients and colleagues.
  • Blueprint and Specification Analysis: Skilled in interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications, with the ability to translate them into accurate cost projections.
