Finance Business Partner (Economy)

We are seeking a Finance Business Partner (Economy) to join our newly established Finance Business Partner Team. This role is crucial in collaborating closely with policy teams to monitor performance against budgets, plan future funding requirements, and develop innovative funding solutions. If you are passionate about maximising the impact of funding and have a strong background in financial planning and analysis, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Lead on the financial evaluation of options for implementing Directorate(s) plans to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Provide financial advice to Directorate(s), including resource allocation and aligning short to medium term objectives within available resources.
  • Support the Senior Finance Business Partner with financial modelling of funding and investment options.
  • Create investor-facing presentations and materials.
  • Monitor and provide insights on the financial performance of a complex portfolio of funding programmes.
  • Lead the monthly management accounts, annual budgeting, and quarterly forecasting process, ensuring alignment with business planning.
  • Build credible relationships with internal policy teams and external funders.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Degree in accounting or equivalent relevant experience.
  • CIMA / CCAB qualification or passed finalist, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience in financial controls and financial procedures within a Local Authority environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in financial reporting standards and CIPFA/IFRS Code.
  • Advanced user of Excel and proficiency in other Microsoft Office packages.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence, negotiate, and challenge effectively.
